Rolex 1978 Oysterquartz Ref:17013
1978 Rolex Oysterquartz Blue Dial Two-Tone ref:17013
The Oysterquartz is the road not taken. While the rest of the Rolex lineup stayed round, this one went angular — an integrated bracelet, an Art Deco case, a design that looks like it was drawn with a straight edge and meant every line. It is the outlier in the catalog and that is exactly why it is interesting.
This particular 17013 is two tone yellow gold and steel from 1978, and the dial has done something remarkable over the decades. What left the factory blue has deepened into something closer to violet, the kind of color you only get from forty-five years of light and life. Tritium markers, T SWISS T at six, the quiet confidence of a watch that was never chasing the crowd.
Recently serviced to restore the quickset date function. Wearing beautifully.
